RedTail Softball Drops Two to D1 Iowa Western

RedTail Softball travelled to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to face D1 Iowa Western Community College. The RedTails lost both, losing game one 8-0 in six innings and losing 12-3 in five innings.
Game One: 8 (IWCC), 0 (HCC)
The RedTails started the top of the inning with baserunners but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. Jordan Eads walked and moved to second on a Mya Chamberlin single. Hailey Harbour was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, but the threat was shut down by the Reivers.
Iowa Western struck in the first inning, scoring three runs. They added two more to their score in the bottom of the second.
Down 5-0 in the fifth, Emilee Bergmann started the inning with a walk but was unable to score.
The Reivers then put up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, getting a 7-0 lead.
With no answer for the Reiver pitching, the RedTails were shut down at the plate. They gave up one more run in the bottom of the sixth to complete the game.
At the plate, Chamberlin had the sole hit of the game. Eads and Bergmann each had a walk. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, giving up eight runs, three earned, on just six hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
Game Two: 12 (IWCC), 3 (HCC)
The RedTails started on top in game two. In the first inning, Lucy lebo led off with a walk and advanced to third on an Eads sacrifice bunt. A Reiver error allowed Eads to reach first. Lizzy Hamand then hit a sacrifice fly to score Lebo, giving the RedTails a 1-0 lead.
Iowa Western responded and scored one run, tying the game up. They scored one more run in the bottom of the second, giving them a 2-1 advantage.
In the top of the third, Hawkeye put up some more baserunners. Harley Gaudet started the inning with a single and advanced to third on a Bergmann sacrifice bunt, which forced another Reiver error, allowing Bergmann to reach second base. Lebo then hit a ground ball to score Gaudet, tying the game 2-2.
A quick three up three down for the RedTails on the field gave them a chance at the plate again in the top of the fourth. Chamberlin hit a single to start the inning, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored from an Olivia Techam single. Gaudet had her second hit of the game right after, but the Reivers held the RedTails from scoring more.
Iowa Western came back to score two runs to put them ahead 4-3.
The bats were too much in the bottom of the fifth where the Reivers scored eight runs, completing the game.
Gaudet led at the plate going 2-2 with one run scored. Techam, Eads, and Chamberlin each had a hit. On the mound, Eads took the loss, going four innings, giving up four runs, four earned, on seven hits, and two strikeouts. Adelyn Sienknecht also pitched, giving up six hits, eight earned runs, and two walks.
Hawkeye moves to 6-10 on the season. They are back for a week long trip in Clermont, Florida where they will play a ten game stretch from March 14th to March 18th.
