RedTail Offense Helps Secure a Win

The RedTails took on the heat in day two of their Florida trip. They played against Parkland College and lost 4-3 and played against SUNY Niagara and won 9-1 in five innings.

 

Game One: 4 (Parkland College), 3 (HCC)

The RedTails threatened early in the first inning but couldn't capitalize. Mya Chamberlin started the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a Jordan Eads single. Ceyaira Barron walked to load the bases, but the threat was ended early.

Parkland struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run.

A two out, second inning rally saw all three Hawkeye runs. Courtney Hemsley was hit by a pitch and advanced to second off a Cobra error. Lucy Lebo then hit a single to score Hemsley. Chamberlin followed with a single herself to score Lebo. Lizzy Hamand then forced a Parkland error to score Chamberlin, putting the RedTails up 3-1.

Parkland added one more run in the bottom of the third, putting them behind 3-2.

The Cobras then scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 4-3.

The RedTails threatened in the bottom of the seventh but came up short.

At the plate, Chamberlin led the way going 3-4 with one run scored, one run batted in, and one walk. Eads was 2-2 with two walks, and Lebo and Eickert each added a hit. Chamberlin took the loss on the mound, giving up seven hits, four earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts.

 

Game Two: 9 (HCC), 1 (SUNY-N): five innings

A quick three up three down inning to start for the RedTails gave them a chance at the plate in the bottom of the first. They scored one run from a Chamberlin walk and Eads single.

Another quick defensive inning gave the RedTails a chance to score more. They scored one more run on a Harley Gaudet single, Hemsley hit by pitch, Lebo walk, and Chamberlin single.

The bottom of the third saw more runs cross the plate for the RedTails. Eads led the inning with a walk and scored on a Barron triple. Hailey Harbour then gave Barron a chance to cross the plate with her at bat, giving Hawkeye a 4-0 lead.

SUNY-N scored their only run in the top of the fifth, making it a 4-1 game.

A big fifth inning allowed for the RedTails to run-rule. Harbour started the inning off with a double and advanced to second on a Gaudet hit ball to force an error. Emilee Bergmann singled to load the bases, and two scored off a Devlin single. Lebo then walked to load the bases. Bergmann and Devlin both scored on passed balls. Lebo then scored on a Chamberlin single to end the game.

At the plate, Chamberlin led going 2-2 with one run scored, two runs batted in, and two walks. Seven other RedTails added hits in the game. On the mound, Eads got the win, going four innings, giving up two hits and three strikeouts. Adelyn Sienknecht pitched one inning, giving up one earned run on two walks and one strikeout.

 

Hawkeye moves to 7-13 on the season. The RedTails are back at Hancock Park in Clermont, Florida at 4:00 and 6:15 PM EST. and face Waubonsee and South Suburban College respectively.
