RedTails Suffer Two Losses to Panthers

The RedTail Softball Team hosted conference foe in a doubleheader matchup at home. The RedTails lost both games, losing game one 6-4 and losing game two 3-1 in eight innings.

 

Game One: 6 (ECC), 4 (HCC)

The RedTails started out on top, going up one run in the bottom of the second when Courtney Hemsley hit a homerun over the right field fence.

Ellsworth tacked on two runs in the top of the third, giving them a 2-1 lead

The RedTails responded in the bottom of the third. Harley Gaudet and Lucy Lebo walked and Mya Chamberlin hit a single to score Gaudet. Jordan Eads then grounded out to score Lebo, giving the RedTails 3-2 advantage.

The Panthers scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 4-3.

Ellsworth added two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Hawkeye added one more run in the bottom of the seventh on a Chamberlin homerun, but they couldn't add anymore, giving them a 6-4 loss.

At the plate, Chamberlin led the way going 4-4 with one run scored and two runs batted in. Hemsley was 2-2 with one run scored and one run batted in. On the mound, Eads pitched all seven innings, giving up eight hits, six runs, two earned, six walks, and two strikeouts.

 

Game Two: 3 (ECC), 1 (HCC)

The RedTails scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Dharma Woodruff doubled and Emilee Bergmann singled to score Woodruff.

The rest of the game was quiet until the top of the sixth inning when Ellsworth scored one run to tie the game.

In the top of the eighth, Ellsworth scored two runs to go up 3-1. Hawkeye was unable to score, ending the game in the eighth inning.

At the plate, Woodruff led going 1-3 with one double and one run scored. Chamberlin added two hits to the game. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, giving up nine hits, three earned runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.

 

The RedTails are back at home on Saturday, March 5th against North Iowa Area Community College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
