#7 DMACC Beat RedTails

The RedTail Softball Team hosted #7 ranked Des Moines Area Community College for a conference doubleheader. The RedTails dropped both, losing game one 10-5 and losing game two 10-1.
Game One: 10 (DMACC), 5 (HCC)
The Bears opened the game up with two runs of their own in the top of the first.
The RedTails responded in the bottom of the first when Lucy Lebo started with a single and stole second base. She scored off of a hit from Courtney Hemsley.
DMACC had a big fourth inning and scored four runs, giving them a 6-1 lead.
They added two more runs in the fifth inning.
Hawkeye found some fight in the bottom of the fifth when Emilee Bergmann started with a walk. She moved to second when Lebo also drew a walk. Mya Chamberlin hit a single to score Bergmann and move Lebo to third. Jordan Eads then laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Lebo, putting the RedTails behind 8-3.
In the sixth, the Bears added their final two runs.
Down to their last three outs, the RedTails were able to put pressure on the DMACC defense. Dharma Woodruff started with a single and Bergmann drew her third walk of the day. Lebo then singled to score two runs to put the score at 10-5. Unfortunately the RedTails were unable to score any more runs to end the game.
Lebo led the way at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs scored and one walk. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, going all seven innings, giving up 15 hits, ten runs, seven earned, two walks, and seven strikeouts.
Game Two: 10 (DMACC), 1 (HCC)
DMACC started the game scoring two runs in the first and four runs in the third. They continued to add runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-0.
In the fourth inning, Chamberlin started with a single and advanced to third on a Hemsley single. Barron then grounded out to score Chamberlin to score the sole run of the game for the RedTails.
DMACC put up three more runs in the sixth to go up 10-1.
Two singles by the RedTails were cut short by the Bear defense, ending the game in the sixth inning.
At the plate, Hemsley was a perfect 3-3. Barron added two hits and Chamberlin had one hit with one run scored.
On the mound, Eads took the loss, going 2.1 innings, giving up six hits, six runs, five earned, two walks, and one strikeout. Sienknecht also pitched, going 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits, five runs, four earned, one walk, and three strikeouts.
The RedTails are back at home on March 13th against Northeast Community College for sophomore day. Game time is set for 12:00 PM.
