RedTails Drop Two

The RedTails hosted Northeast Community College in a double header. Hawkeye dropped both, losing game one 8-5 and game two 9-5.

 

Game One: 8 (NCC), 5 (HCC)

The RedTails scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Courtney Hemsley hit a hard ground ball forcing a Hawk error. Hailey Harbour put the ball in play to get on base but Hemsley got out advancing to second. Delaney Eickert stepped up and hit her first collegiate home run to score Harbour.

Northeast responded and scored two runs in the top of the third.

The game was quiet until the sixth inning, when Northeast scored two runs to go up 4-2.

Hawkeye fought back to take back the lead. Hemsley was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball. Lizzy Hamand then homered to score Hemsley to tie up the score. Harley Gaudet started a two out rally and singled. She advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Emilee Bergmann hit a single.

Unfortunately, the Hawks bats got hot in the seventh, scoring four runs to go up 8-5. The RedTails were unable to score any more runs.

Hamand led at the plate, going 2-3 with one run scored and two runs batted in. Bergmann was 1-2 with one run batted in and one walk. Mya Chamberlin took the loss, going 6.1 innings, giving up thirteen hits, eight runs, six earned, one walk, and six strikeouts. Adelyn Sienknecht also pitched, giving up no hits and one strikeout.

 

Game Two: 9 (NCC), 5 (HCC)

The RedTails started the second game off the same way, scoring two runs in the second inning. Courtney Hemsley hit a single and advanced to second when Olivia Techam hit a single. Harley Gaudet then sacrificed bunt and reached base on an error, scoring Hemsley and moving Techam to third. Rylie Devlin then hit a single to score Techam.

Northeast tied up the game in the third inning. They added two more runs to take a 4-2 lead.

The RedTails scored one more run in the fourth when Hemsley forced a Hawk error, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a Ceyaira Barron single.

With the score 4-3, Northeast put some runs up to give them a bigger lead. They tacked on four runs in the fifth inning.

Hamand then hit a solo shot to to cut the deficit to four runs.

Northeast added one more run in the top of the sixth.

Hemsley started the bottom of the sixth by getting hit by a pitch. She advanced to second off the bat of Techam, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored from a Gaudet sacrifice fly. The RedTails were held scoreless the rest of the game, ending in a 9-5 loss.

At the plate, Hemsley led the way going 1-2 with three runs scored. Jordan Eads took the loss on the mound going 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits, four runs, four earned, and one strikeout. Sienknecht threw 3.1 innings, giving up nine hits, five runs, four earned, one walk, and two strikeouts.

 

The RedTails have their last home game of the season on Wednesday, April 16th against Iowa Central Community College. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
