Lady RedTails Take Fourth at Chelsey M. Henkenius Open

WAVERLY–The third annual Chelsey M. Henkenius Open proved to be an early season test for the Hawkeye Community College Track & Field teams. The meet consisted of 12 teams, primarily from the DIII, NAIA, and NJCAA levels competing inside of Hoover Fieldhouse on Wartburg College's campus in Waverly. On the women's side, the RedTails competed very well, and tallied 56 total team points to earn a 4th place tie with Mount Mercy University.
Cedar Rapids native Haile Cook started the RedTails off with a strong performance in both the Women's Shot Put and the Women's Weight Throw. Cook took home 7th place in the shot put after a throw of 37-05.25 in the finals. In the weight throw, Cook's throw of 38-01.25 earned her 14th overall in the event.
In the jumping events, Zarreeel Knox earned the RedTails 14 team points between her two events on the day. Knox finished runner-up in the Women's Triple Jump after she jumped 33-00.50, out-jumping Jakeena McKay of Wartburg by .25 for 2nd. In the long jump, Knox took flight for a final mark of 16-02.50, which earned her a 3rd place finish.
The running events featured several strong performances for the RedTails including a 1st place finish in the Distance Medley. The Distance Medley team consisting of Mikki Mundus, Jurane Lizer, Shea Dahlstrom, and anchor Joanna Topham took home the crown with a time of 13:46.65. Lizer and Mundus also teamed up with Ashley Stogdill and Atlanta Groeneveld to put together a strong time of 4:33.62 in a Women's 4x400 Meter Relay loaded field.
In the Women's 3000 Meter Run, it was RedTail cross country All-American Joanna Topham putting together a strong race and finishing 5th overall with a time of 11:09.21. Megan Hudson also added to the RedTail team points as she finished 3rd overall in the Women's 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.42.
The RedTails put together very strong showings in both the open 200 and 800 Meter Run. First, in the 200M, it was Lizer and Hudson again racing well as they took home 3rd and 6th, respectively in the finals. The cross country duo of Mundus and Groeneveld finished 3rd and 4th in the 800M with times of 2:31.34 and 2:32.28 in the event.
