Lady RedTails take Bronze at Indoor Regionals

STORM LAKE - The Hawkeye Community College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed in Storm Lake, Iowa for their first ever NJCAA Regional Indoor Championships over this past weekend.

The to day meet scored 20 total events and showcased several strong RedTail performers. The women's Track & Field team finished 3rd overall as they would tally 101 team points behind a total team effort.

Zarreeel Knox and Haile Cook would headline an impressive showing for the RedTails on the field events side. Jumping a distance of 10.36M in the finals, Knox would outjump the next closest competitor by .16M to take the Triple Jump crown. The freshman Knox would also take home a runner-up finish in the Long Jump after soaring for a best of 4.83M. The Cedar Rapids native, Cook, finished 3rd in the Weight Throw following a toss of 14.35M. Cook would also earn team points after she completed a throw of 12.34M in the shot put and finished 4th overall.

On the track, Joanna Topham continued to excel, as she would earn team points in all three of her running events. First up, the mile run, as Topham crossed the line in a time of 5:29.13 and added 8 team points to the RedTails total as she finished runner-up in the event. Topham would go on to add another runner-up finish to her resume, this time in the 3000 Meter run when she finished in 11:13.99. In her last event, Topham would team up with Hannah Johnson, Shea Dahlstrom, and anchor Atlanta Groeneveld in the 4x800 Meter relay. The RedTail team would finish 2nd overall in the event after putting forth an impressive time of 10:28.48.

Groeneveld, and fellow RedTail Mikki Mundus would also take part in the 800 Meter run. The Cross Country duo would race hard as Mundus finished 3rd overall, with Groeneveld crossing the finish line right on her heels for 4th place.

Headlining the sprinting events for the RedTails would be the freshman duo of Megan Hudson and Jurane Lizer. Hudson would post the top time during the preliminaries of the 60 Meter hurdles after winning her heat in 9.38 seconds. In the finals, Hudson would cross the line in a time of 9.25 to claim the title in the event and add 10 team points for the RedTails. Lizer qualified for the finals in the 60 Meter dash, and sprinted to the line in a time of 8.18 to finish 8th overall in the event. In the 400, Lizer finished 5th in the finals after racing an impressive time of 1:03.67.

The RedTail Track & Field teams will be traveling to Lubbock, Texas next to compete at the NJCAA National meet hosted by Texas Tech University on Friday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 3rd.
