RedTails Finish Fourth Behind Indian Hills at Regionals
There were a handful of outstanding individual performances that received high placement. The RedTail Women's Track and Field team finished fourth at the Region XI Indoor meet on Saturday, February 20.
Ryann Portch led the 600-meter dash with a podium finish of second place at 1 minute and 39.85 seconds. Not far behind was Kaylee Leicht taking fifth, Maddy Lenaerts in seventh, and Emma Drake in eighth place.
Portch continued her impressive streak by hitting a national-qualifying mark and winning the 1000 meter at 3:08.02 seconds. Leicht was close again, finishing fourth overall at 3:16.42 and Sophie Spargur in seventh place with a time of 3:26.92.
The women's distance medley (Hannah Payne, Lenerts, Elizabeth Barfells, and Mindi Sande) and the 4x400 relay (Lenerts, Drake, Leicht, and Portch) both took third.
Kylee Neighbors made notable finishes in two events. The first being the 60-meter dash hurdles where she took third and high jump finishing in fourth place.
Allison Flanscha took third in the shot put finals and Alyssa Striegel took sixth in weight throw with a new personal record of 11.60 meters.
Coach Tyler Mulder was pleased with the women's team performance saying, "They competed hard and a majority of the athletes doubled and tripled up on events giving 100%. Everyone is coming around really nice, just in time for a great National Championship!"
Next up, the RedTails travel to Pittsburg State University for the NJCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 5.
