RedTail Women’s Track and Field Shows Glimmers of Greatness at Cornell College Invitational

MOUNT VERNON-The RedTail Women's Track and Field team had some phenomenal individual performances at the Cornell College Invite on Saturday, April 3.
The RedTails were led by thrower Mari Shavers, who put together an all-time performance. Shavers swept the throwing events by winning the shot put, discus, and hammer throw, setting the school record in each of the events. Shavers' efforts also earned her a qualification for the national meet in each of the three throwing events.
Jenna Hummell got in on the action, as she finished in a personal best 13.10 seconds in the 100 meter-dash and finished second. Hummel followed up her outstanding performance in the 100 by finishing third in the 200-meter dash.
Kylee Neighbors took home two golds, finishing first in both the high jump and 100-meter hurdles. Ryann Portch and Kaylee Leicht tacked onto the great stretch of performances by finishing first and second respectively.
"Overall we had a solid day of track and field and couldn't have had a more beautiful day for it," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "Coach Williams is doing a fantastic job with the throws crew."
The RedTails will look to continue their improvement in the outdoor season when they head to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Grandview Invite on Friday, April 9.
