RedTails Unleash Beatdown In Season Opener

RedTails Unleash Beatdown In Season Opener

WATERLOO–The RedTail Volleyball team made their presence known with a hard-fought three-set victory (25-9, 25-23, 25-23) against conference rival Indian Hills on January 24.

The RedTails started out hot in the first set thanks to an 8-0. The ladies stayed focused and closed out the set in dominant fashion, 25-9.

Set two was much closer, as the Warriors looked to bounce back and the RedTails tried to take control of the match. With a 20-15 lead, the RedTails looked as though they were going to cruise into a second set victory, but the Warriors closed strong. Unfortunately for the Warriors, their 8-5 set closing run came up short, as the RedTails held on to win 25-23.

Set three was another thriller, with both teams going back and forth like heavy-weight fighters and no team able to take a large lead. Facing a 20-22 deficit, the RedTails dug their heels in and closed the set on a 5-1 run to win 25-23.

"We have a lot of new faces this year, and I think our girls really reacted well on defense and offense," said head coach Tyann Caspers.

The RedTails showed a great team effort through all three sets. Sophomore Amber Rickert played an outstanding game, recording nine kills and four service aces.

The RedTails will look to stay hot as they take on North Iowa Area Community College on Tuesday, January 26, at home.
