RedTails Win 5-set Thriller Over Trojans

WATERLOO–The RedTails proved their excellence yet again with a victory on Tuesday (January 26) night against ​North Iowa Area Community College. Both teams put up a good fight with a five-set game. The RedTails alternated wins between sets ending the night with the final score, 3-2. 

The RedTails and Trojans played a close race in the first set with an 8-8 tie at the first timeout, but the RedTails pulled through with a win, 25-23. 

The Trojans led the second set, however the RedTails did not follow far behind trailing by just a few points throughout the set. The Trojans prevailed and won the set, 25-21. 

During the third set, the RedTails dominated. Leading at the first timeout, 14-7, and continuing a notable lead to the end of the set winning 25-18. 

The Trojans weren't willing to go down without a fight. In the fourth set they took control and the RedTails unfortunately fell short and lost the set against the Trojans, 25-16. 

During the last set the RedTails were determined to break the even match-up. This set was again a close call, the RedTails and Trojans battled back and forth, point for point. The RedTails were hungry for a victory though and powered through showing their skill on the court with a win, 17-15. 

Head coach Tyann Caspers summed up the night stating, "Our girls reacted to adversity really well and we came back and finished the fifth set. I think we have things we need to work on moving forward but they did a great job finishing out the game." 

Top stats for the game included Amber Rickert and  Haley Eckerman with 12 kills each, and Sophomore Emily Clapp with 11 kills. Freshman Bailey Hoff was the defensive leader of the night with 21 digs. 

The RedTails head to Southeastern Community College this Thursday, January 28, and will be back at home for action on Saturday, January 30, playing Northeast Community College.
