Upset Over Northeast Continues RedTails Winning Streak

WATERLOO– No. 18 ranked RedTails dominated a fierce three-set match against No. 17 Northeast Community College Saturday (January 30) morning. This is the RedTails fourth consecutive win for their current season record, 4-0. 

During the first set, the RedTails held a stable lead over the Hawks, with the team up 19-15 at the first timeout. Following the timeout, the RedTails defense came through, blocking everything that came their way to claim the set with an impressive, 25-17 margin. 

From the start of the second set, the RedTail defense showed they came to win, again blocking anything in sight. RedTails took the lead at the start of the set, but were tied 13-13 at the first timeout. The Hawks took the lead, but only by one to two points. It was at this time when the game became a real nail-biter and the RedTails and Hawks were tied 24-24. However, the RedTails were persistent and pulled ahead, winning the set 26-24. 

A victory was in reach for the RedTails after winning the first two sets, they just had one to go before beating the No. 17-ranked team. It was during this third set that the two teams went back and forth point-for-point keeping a tied score board. The RedTails were able to find their groove in the last half of the game taking the lead by a few points and winning the final set, 25-23. A clean sweep for the RedTails. 

 

Head coach Tyann Caspers was impressed with the team's performance saying, "The girls did a great job doing the things we needed to do to be successful against Northeast. They are always a tough team and we went into that match prepared for that."

Defensive leader of the game was freshman Bailey Hoff, with an outstanding 27 digs. Other notable stats from the match include sophomore Amber Rickert with 21 kills and freshman Amber Cooling with 19 assists. 

The RedTails will continue their momentum on the road at ​Estherville, ​Iowa against Iowa Lakes Community College on Tuesday, February 2.
