RedTails Persevere To Beat Number Five Ranked Team

WATERLOO–It was a tough match for both the RedTails and Bears at Sunday's (February 28) game with a five-set match. However, the RedTails came out on top and defeated DMACC who was ranked at number five.

 

The RedTails struggled to find momentum in the first set. Only trailing behind the Bears 14-12 halfway through the set, DMACC took a 5-10 point lead throughout the remainder of this set. The RedTails fell to DMACC 25-15

 

In the second set, the RedTails put their best foot forward. Although tied 14-14 at the first timeout, the RedTails pushed their way to the top, making a few point difference between themselves and the Bears 19-14. The RedTails hold on to win the second set, 25-22. 

 

Set three followed a similar fashion to the second set.There was only a few point difference during the set but they tied towards the end of the set at 21-21. The RedTails dominated this set and won yet again, 25-22.

 

The Bears came back in the fourth set leading early on, 12-8. A win for them would force a fifth set. Over halfway through the set, the Bears still had control with an eight point lead, 20-12. DMACC managed another win 25-17.

 

Moving on to the fifth and final set, the crowd was on the edge of their seats waiting to see which team would claim the victory. The RedTails come out leading the set 11-5. The RedTails complete the upset and close out the fifth set 15-10.

 

Coach Tyann Caspers was impressed with the team's performance saying, "The girls have been putting in the time to improve on the things that we need to get better at. We played well and came out on top. It was a great match played by everyone!"

 

Sophomore Amber Rickert led the team in kills with 20 for the match. Bailey Hoff, a freshman, took the lead in digs with an impressive 37. Both Madison Fillinger and Amber Cooling helped their team to a win with their assists. Fillinger with 23 and Cooling with 22. 

 

The RedTails have a busy week ahead of them as they take on NIACC in Mason City on Tuesday (March 2) and again on Thursday (March 4) against Southeastern Community College in Waterloo!
