RedTail Volleyball Defeats NIACC 3-1 in First Round of Postseason Play

The RedTail Women's Volleyball Team began their postseason play with a 3-1 upset (25-17, 16-25, 25-16, 25-20) over the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans at the HESC on Sunday, March 28. The RedTails finished the night with a .192 kill percentage compared to NIACC's .091.

"Yesterday was a hard fought win and we had some great execution out of our girls," said head coach Tyann Caspers. "We have a great bench that always brings lots of energy and enthusiasm!"

The RedTails started strong in the first set, eventually gaining an 18-11 lead. They continued to pull ahead after a Trojan timeout and ended the set with the 25-17 win. The blue and orange were unable to pull ahead during set two, falling by nine points.

After a tough second set, the RedTails grabbed an early 11-5 lead in set three, leading to another Trojan timeout. With positive energy on the court and in the RedTail stands, they held the lead throughout the set to earn the 25-16 win.

In set four the RedTails and the Trojans traded the lead back and forth in nail-biting volleys. A RedTail timeout was all it took for them to recollect and pull ahead to tie the set 18-18. They continued to put up a fight, ultimately leading to the 25-20 RedTail win.

Outside hitter Amber Rickert performed impressively for the RedTails both offensively and defensively, tallying 20 kills and 18 digs on the night. Emily Clapp and Jessica Jacobs also showed strong performances, with 9 and 10 kills.

Next up, the RedTails travel to Fort Dodge to take on fourth-ranked Iowa Central Community College for the next round of postseason play on Tuesday, March 30.
