RedTails lose against Kirkwood 2-3

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, the RedTails volleyball team hosted a Dig Pink Night October 2 against Kirkwood Community College.
Although the RedTails lost in five sets, they battled hard against Kirkwood, who is currently ranked #3 in the country. The Eagles took the first set (13-25), the third set (18-25), and the fifth set (4-15). The RedTails fought and won the second set (25-21) and the fourth set (25-13).
Sophomore Mallory Tisue led all attackers with 11 kills hitting .286. Following that, freshman Ruby Patterson had 10 kills while Alexis Even contributed nine kills offensively. On the defensive end, sophomore libero Lexi Gehrke had 13 digs. Allie Barrus (11), Alexis Even (11) also helped hold the line in the back court. At the net, Tisue added five block assists. Nohea Mahi finished the night with 35 assists and 3 service aces.
"I was proud of how we battled tonight. The first set wasn't pretty, but we settled down and got to work defensively and behind the service line. We put a lot of pressure on them with aggressive serving and it really paid off in sets two and four as they were out of system a lot."
"Kirkwood is a strong team and the fact that we went 5 sets with them shows what we are capable of doing. We had a great crowd too and that made it a fun atmosphere to compete" said Coach Chris Mahi
The RedTails are back in action against Iowa Lakes Community College on Wednesday, October 9.
