RedTails Volleyball Faces Tough Competition at Heartland Invite

The RedTail volleyball team traveled to Normal, Illinois, October 12-13 to compete in the Heartland Invite. 

To begin the weekend, the RedTails faced #5 ranked Heartland College where they lost in three sets (18-25, 16-25, 13-25).

Mallory Tisue led all attackers with 11 kills, Emersyn Secora and Alexis Even each added 5 kills. Libero Lexi Gehrke had nine digs and Emersyn Secora tallied nine digs as well. Josie Hogan had 17 assists. 

Right after their match against Heartland, the RedTails played #18 ranked Moraine Valley Community College where they lost in three sets (15-25, 17-25 & 12-25).

Libero Lexi Gehrke led the defense with 10 digs and helped the team tallied 38 digs. Offensively, Mallory Tisue had 8 kills, while Emersyn Secora had 6 kills and Alexis Even had 4. 

To start Saturday off the RedTails opened play against Lincoln Land Community College. The RedTails fought with grit, but could not pull the win off, losing in five sets (27-25, 25-27, 25-18, 20-25 and 10-15).

In their final match of the weekend, the RedTails faced #4 ranked Parkland College, losing in three sets (15-25, 15-25, 14-25).

Mallory Tisue had eight kills, Emersyn added seven and Ruby added four kills. Lexi Gehrke led the defense with 12 digs, Alexis Even added nine digs and Allie Barrus contributed seven digs.

"We knew going into this weekend that the competition would be tough having to play teams that are ranked #4, #5 and #18. We battled through the weekend and came out stronger," said head coach Chris Mahi 

The RedTails are back in action Tuesday, October 15, against Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines.
